30/30 DAY 28-- Quit Giving It Away for Free
April 28, 2016
If I told you that you could have my car--for FREE-- what would your first thought be? I suspect you would wonder "what is wrong with it?"
In the field of alternative health, there are a lot of big hearted people with good intentions who want to save the world--but the mistake they are making is that they are giving away their services for free. This is fine if you simply want a hobby-- but if you want to make your practice your sole source of income, if you want it to be successful , you need to charge what your services are worth.
People value what they can attach a dollar amount to. If your sessions are "free" or ridiculously inexpensive, there are several thoughts that may cross your potential clients mind:
- maybe she doesn't know what she is doing -what is wrong with it? -I am probably not going to get results -She doesn't have confidence If you are unsure of what to charge, call around and ask what other people in your field charge. The price yourself in the mid to high end of the range.
If you charge less, you are communicating a lack of confidence and raising a suspicion that there is something wrong with your services. So, be competitive.
And if you want to make sure that you are not making your services out of reach for people who may not have the income, ask that the person you are helping pay it forward in some way. This way they get your help, you are communicating that your help is worth something, the client gets the pleasure of helping out someone else when they are at a place when that is possible and some lucky person gets to benefit from the arrangement you have made with your client.
