30/30 DAY 30-- Set Your GPS
April 30, 2016
I am sure you are familiar with the concept of the GPS.
Perhaps you have one in your phone or your vehicle. You may have a destination you’d like to reach but no idea how to get there. However, if you can program that destination into the GPS, the rest is easy. A map comes up, a voice comes on, and you’re given instructions. You’re told how far to go, where to turn, what to watch out for. And all you have to do is follow the voice and you can arrive at your destination. Simple.
When it comes to your vision for your practice, I recommend that you take some time to “program your GPS” for the destination you desire to reach. Of course, being a hypnotherapist, my programming method of choice is using hypnosis.
The subconscious mind, which we are able to access during hypnosis, does not know the difference between something you imagine and something that’s really happening. This is why we can have a frightening dream and wake up and still feel the effects of it. The mind does not say, “oh, that’s was just happening inside my head”. It doesn’t recognize the difference between something that was “just inside your head ” and something that’s happening in real life.
So, when you take time to visualize or imagine how you would like your practice to be running, you are essentially setting your GPS. You are programming your subconscious with the vision for your practice, and your subconscious begins to move you towards that direction. And just like the voice comes on in the GPS and tells you where to go and where to turn and how far to travel, your internal voice will start giving you instructions as to how to get to the destination you have programmed through visualizing or imagining your ideal practice.
So, what I recommend is that before you go to bed you take some time to run through in your mind how you would like your practice to look or feel one year, five years, even 10 years down the road.
I suggest doing this before you go to bed because as we fall asleep we pass through a natural trance state when our brainwave levels slow down from beta to delta. So what this means is that whatever you were thinking about right before you fell asleep gets deposited into your subconscious mind just like a hypnotic suggestion. So, after lying in bed, take time to think about or imagine how you would like your practice to be in the future.
Consider: • how many clients would you like to see daily • how would you like to be spending a typical day • what types of goals or issues would you want to be working on • what type of location would you want to be working in • what time of day or night would you prefer to work • What would you be charging for your services? What kind of deposits would you be making at the end of the day? • Who would you be spending your time with over the course of a typical day? …And any other details that come to mind.
Again, this programs your subconscious mind – – your GPS – – with the destination you wish to reach. Then, as you grow throughout the day, your subconscious will begin to give you instructions, tips and hints as to how to get to that destination. This can show up as creative inspiration, little nudges, urges, or compulsions that, when you follow them, lead you closer and closer to your destination.
So by imagining the “what” that you want to achieve, your higher mind – – your subconscious – – will present you the “how”.
So, how about before you go to bed tonight, you run through in your mind what it is you’d like to achieve. And then as you go through the day tomorrow, keep your eyes and ears open for those little signposts that tell you where to “turn” to get your desired destination.
