What Is the Tweak?
Sometimes, when a client comes to hypnotherapy, we don't yet have all the information we need to fully understand what's contributing to their problem.
And sometimes, the client doesn't have that information either!
Over the years, I've noticed that once people decide they're ready to make a change, they often begin having new insights about their situation. They might remember something, recognize a connection, or suddenly see something from a different perspective.
I developed a simple technique I call the Tweak to encourage that process.
It's a short script I typically introduce during the first hypnosis session, although I may use it in subsequent sessions as well.
The idea is to invite the subconscious mind to bring forward information that might be useful in helping the client achieve their goal.
That information may come to mind during hypnosis, or it might emerge afterward as a thought, memory, dream, feeling, or sudden realization.
The Tweak also gives clients permission to share those insights during the session or save them for our debrief afterward.
It's a simple addition to a session that can sometimes give us valuable new directions to explore.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind
The Tweak isn't about searching for a particular memory or trying to uncover a hidden cause.
It's about inviting the client to become aware of information that might be useful.
Sometimes that information comes up during hypnosis.
Sometimes it emerges between sessions.
And sometimes nothing new comes up at all.
That's fine too!
I encourage clients to share whatever they notice, even if they aren't sure whether it's relevant. We can explore it together and decide whether there's something useful there.
It's also important to remember that an emerging memory, feeling, or association isn't necessarily an accurate explanation of what caused a problem. It's information to consider, not something to automatically accept as fact.
The goal is to remain curious, flexible, and responsive to the client, rather than trying to make their experience fit a particular explanation.
