Supervised Practice Lab

Move from studying hypnotherapy to confidently practising it.

There is a point in every hypnotherapy training where watching lessons and reading scripts is no longer enough.

You need to sit across from another person.

You need to ask the questions.

You need to listen to their answers, organize the information, decide what matters,

and build a session around the person in front of you.

That can feel intimidating when you are still learning.

The Supervised Practice Lab gives you a structured way to begin.

Over four consecutive Saturdays, you will be paired with another student who has reached the same stage of the training.

You will work together from consultation through a series of three hypnosis sessions, taking turns as both practitioner and client.

You will not be expected to know everything.

You will be expected to prepare, practice, ask questions, and learn.

A Bridge Between the Course and Working With Volunteers

Many students understand the course material but hesitate when it is time to work with someone outside the training.

They worry about choosing the right direction.

They wonder whether their session is good enough.

They feel nervous about forgetting a step, handling an unexpected response, or creating something personalized.

The answer is practice, but practice is much easier when it is structured and supported.

In the Supervised Practice Lab, your partner understands that you are learning because they are learning too.

You will both have the chance to practice without pretending to be more experienced than you are.

I will be present throughout the process to teach, answer questions, move between the practice rooms, and provide feedback.

How the Lab Works

The lab begins on the first Saturday of each month from 1- 430 pacific time and continues for four consecutive Saturdays.

Each meeting is approximately three hours long and is held live on Zoom.

Week One: Consultation

You and your partner will each conduct a consultation.

You will practice gathering information, identifying patterns, listening beneath the surface, and beginning to understand how the client’s current response makes sense in context.

You will also receive support with organizing your information, creating an ABC chart, and preparing for the first hypnosis session.

Week Two: First Hypnosis Session

You will each conduct the first hypnosis session with your partner.

You will begin applying what you have learned about induction, session structure, personalized language, and working with the client’s specific goal.

Week Three: Second Hypnosis Session

You will review what happened in the first session and decide what needs to happen next.

This is where you begin learning how a series develops from the client’s responses rather than following a fixed plan.

Week Four: Third Hypnosis Session and Review

You will conduct the final session in the series and review the full process.

We will look at what changed, what you learned, what you might have done differently, and how you would continue if this were an ongoing client.

You Will Be Both Practitioner and Client

This lab is not only an opportunity to practice delivering hypnosis.

You will also receive a consultation and three hypnosis sessions from your partner.

Experiencing the process as a client helps you understand:

  • What it feels like to answer consultation questions

  • Which language creates trust and clarity

  • What helps a client feel comfortable during hypnosis

  • How it feels when a session is personalized

  • What makes feedback useful

  • How change develops across more than one session

You will come with an appropriate personal goal to work on.

You do not need to disclose that goal to the larger group, but you will need to discuss it with your assigned partner.

What You Will Practice

During the four-week series, you will have the opportunity to practice:

  • Conducting a complete consultation

  • Identifying events, beliefs, and symptoms

  • Creating an ABC chart

  • Choosing an appropriate direction for the work

  • Planning a personalized hypnosis session

  • Guiding someone into and out of hypnosis

  • Using hypnotic arguments

  • Adjusting your approach based on the client’s response

  • Reviewing one session and preparing for the next

  • Giving and receiving constructive feedback

  • Working with the same person across a series of sessions

Who This Is For

The Supervised Practice Lab is for Horizon Center students who have reached the point where they understand the foundational structure of hypnotherapy and are ready to begin applying it.

You must have completed through to Lesson 11

Before joining, you should be able to:

  • Conduct a basic consultation

  • Understand the ABC chart

  • Guide someone safely into and out of hypnosis

  • Follow the basic structure of a hypnosis session

  • Create a simple hypnotic argument

  • Understand the ethical and safety guidelines taught in the course

You do not need to feel confident yet.

Developing confidence is one of the reasons this lab exists.

Choosing an Appropriate Goal

The goal you bring should be meaningful but manageable for student practice.

Appropriate goals may include confidence, motivation, procrastination, overthinking, public speaking nerves,

relaxation, or a simple habit.

This lab is not intended for current crises, major trauma, serious medical concerns, or goals that require an experienced practitioner.

Attendance and Commitment

Because you will be paired with another student who is depending on you, registration requires a commitment to attend all four Saturdays.

Missing a meeting does not only affect your own learning.

It also prevents your partner from completing their series.

Please register only when you know you can be present for the full four-week experience.

Small Groups and Individual Attention

The Supervised Practice Lab is intentionally kept small.

This allows me to spend time in each practice room, answer questions, observe your work, and provide useful feedback.

You will have room to learn without being expected to perform perfectly.

Everyone in the lab is there for the same reason: to practice, improve, and become more comfortable using what they have learned.

From Understanding to Experience

The curriculum teaches you how hypnotherapy works.

The Supervised Practice Lab gives you the opportunity to begin doing it.

You will leave with experience conducting a real consultation, planning personalized work, delivering a series of sessions, and receiving hypnosis yourself.

More importantly, you will have taken an important step from wondering whether you can do this to having real experience that shows you what you already know and what you still need to practice.
