What They Don’t Teach You in Holistic Training (But You Still Need to Know)

When I graduated from my hypnotherapy training, I got a lucky break.
I reached out—completely unsure of what I was doing—to a local radio station to ask if anyone might be interested in interviewing me about hypnotherapy.
That cold email turned into more than 50 shows over a seven-year span.
Each show was a full hour, where people would call in with questions about hypnosis and how it could help them. And every show brought in a steady stream of clients—enough to keep me fully booked until the next one aired.
I didn’t need to worry about visibility. I didn’t have to figure out email marketing or social media or SEO. I just got to do the work I loved.
But then, after seven years, the show was cancelled.
Suddenly, I realized just how many of my clients had come through those radio shows. And I had no idea what to do next. My training had taught me how to help people—but it didn’t teach me how to run a business. There was no class on marketing, no lesson on how to set up systems, build a practice, or reach people in a sustainable way.
Since then, I’ve invested a lot of time and energy learning the “business side” of holistic work. I’ve done countless trainings, worked with coaches, even hired a psychic business mentor.
But here’s the truth: even with all that strategy, if I didn’t know how to manage my mindset, I would’ve gotten stuck.
Thankfully, I had the tools of hypnosis and subconscious reprogramming to work through fear, imposter syndrome, money worries, and every belief that told me I couldn’t do this.
Not everyone has that. Most people in the alternative or holistic world don’t.
Most people take training to help others—but get no guidance at all on how to help themselves build a practice that actually supports them financially, emotionally, or energetically.
That’s why I now teach a simple framework called The Three M’s: Mindset, Mastery, and Marketing. Because all three are essential if you want to thrive doing what you love.
Mindset
This is where it all starts.
You can have the best training in the world, but if you’re quietly thinking, “I’m not ready,” or “Who would pay me for this?”—it’s going to show.
Your mindset shapes your energy, your confidence, your ability to show up and speak clearly about what you do.
So many practitioners struggle with fear of being seen, self-doubt, or money blocks that come from childhood or cultural conditioning. They want to grow their business—but part of them feels like it’s not safe to succeed, or they don’t really deserve to charge.
If your subconscious is holding on to those beliefs, it doesn’t matter how good your marketing plan is. You’ll stay stuck.
That’s why I always say: work on your inner world first. That’s where alignment begins.
Mastery
This one’s easy to overlook. But it’s just as important.
When people finally find you—when they book the session and show up—you want to make sure your work is effective. That it sticks. That they leave feeling better, clearer, changed.
And that means getting honest with yourself about what’s working… and what’s not.
Sometimes clients don’t make progress because you’re not actually addressing the root cause. Sometimes you need better tools to work with the subconscious mind. Sometimes you need feedback, practice, or supervision to help you grow.
I tell my students and mentees all the time: you don’t need another certification. But you do need to own your brilliance. You need to know what you’re really good at and be able to talk about it.
Marketing
And then there’s this part—the one that makes most holistic people cringe.
But here’s the thing: marketing is just a way to help the people who are looking for you… find you.
It doesn’t have to be loud or pushy. It doesn’t mean dancing on TikTok if that’s not your thing.
It just means creating a few clear roads that lead people to your cabin in the woods.
I help practitioners create simple, aligned strategies to build visibility and connect with the people they’re meant to serve. Whether that’s through a basic website, an email list, a few good referral systems, or in-person networking—it doesn’t have to be complicated. It just has to work for you.
